We built HeyLine because the phone was beating the people we know.
A plumber friend told us he'd stopped answering unknown numbers during jobs — it cost him focus, and it cost customers. Then he showed us his call log. Eleven missed calls in a week, four of them first-time callers. That log is the whole reason this company exists.
The problem isn't laziness. It's physics.
You can't be under a sink and on the phone. You can't hold scissors and take a reservation. Every trade we've worked with has the same structural problem: the moments you're most valuable are the moments you're least reachable, and the customer calling doesn't know or care.
The usual answers all fail somewhere. Voicemail catches almost nobody — most first-time callers just dial the next business. A part-time receptionist covers forty hours and costs more than the jobs some weeks bring in. Answering services take messages they can't act on, because they don't know your prices or your calendar.
So we built the boring version of AI
No chatbot on your website. No dashboard to live in. A phone line that answers in your business's own words, books the job into the calendar you already use, and texts you two lines about what happened. That's it. If it works, you notice it as jobs that didn't disappear.
We write every script by hand with the owner, because the difference between a useful line and an embarrassing one is whether it knows that a weekend call-out is $189 and that a leak is an emergency but a slow drain isn't. That knowledge doesn't come out of a model. It comes out of a twenty-minute conversation.
Why the beta is free, and small
Twenty-five businesses, onboarded by hand, paying nothing. We want the transcripts and the honest complaints more than we want the revenue right now — and building this around real phones beats building it around assumptions. Beta members keep a founding rate when we start charging.
A small founding team of engineers and operators, working directly with the first cohort. Bios and photographs go here once you send them — we'd rather leave this honest than fill it with stock faces.
Four rules we won't trade for a demo that sounds smarter.
We set it up, not you
Small business owners don't have an IT afternoon spare. If a feature needs a tutorial, it needs a rethink — or it needs to be our job, not yours.
It says what it doesn't know
An AI that guesses your prices costs you money and trust. Ours deflects, takes details and flags the call. Honest beats impressive.
A human is always one step away
Any caller who wants a person gets a person. The AI hands over with context instead of stonewalling.
Your calls are yours
Transcripts and recordings belong to you. We don't sell data, and we delete everything on request — permanently.
Talk to the thing we built.
It answers in 1.2 seconds, any hour. Ask it anything a customer of yours would ask.
